'Philippine Running Events' - these are the keywords I google(d) when I decided to run again & take it seriously - again lol!.
Thanks to Google I stumbled upon the Takbo site. There I found the Philippine marathon/race listings. For a come back runner like me, race is a motivation. Training is like a sandbag fixed at my feet if there were no races I look forward to - adding the fact that I have to train on my own (no coach- no one to push me.. training with a coach even without races to join in is still better than training alone).
My First run (as a comeback) wasn't found in the race listings of the Takbo site, but through an officemate's invitation to join the company sponsored marathon. I already knew about the event but it's just 2 days away and I have no preparations. Having the mentality of a 'used to' athlete, It's a No-No. :( That's what I told the guy and explained the possible consequences. He just said, 'Mas ok ka nga kasi ikaw may experience sa pag takbo, e ako wala at wala rin training pero sasali ako.. kung hindi kaya edi maglakad..' (You situation is better than mine, you used to run but me, I'm a fort timer, I never trained for this race but I'll join..If I gassed out then I'll walk).
It was a sunday morning. I can still feel the warm of the sun in my skin. My feet is aching. A man approached me and handed me an item wrapped in a transparent plastic bag. Another man handed me a gatorade. I looked at my watch, it says 15:10. Whew! that was good enough for a comeback runner in a 3k event. :)
After a few minutes, I saw my officemate approaching the finish line. After crossing the line, I immediately told him, look for that man that gives something. We found the man but no items anymore. :( The man said the items are for the top 50 finishers. Wow! ahahahaha!
Off the record
I never intended to join the company run - but I decided to, to have it as the kick-off of my training... I run with my eyes fixed on the race I saw in the Takbo site - that race is My official first Philippine running event - as a comeback.
